Crystal Ball
Crystal Ball
The story you are reading now is the story of a village in Spain. A long time ago there was a small village in southern Spain. The people of that village were very happy. They lived happily with what they had. All the children of the village used to play in the shade of the trees in the garden of their house. A shepherd boy named Nasir lived near that village with his parents and grandmother. Every morning the shepherd boy took his sheep and goats to graze on the hillside. He would return to the village with them again in the afternoon. Nasir's grandmother used to tell him funny stories while sleeping at night. Most of the time, Nasir wanted to listen to the stories of the stars. Nasir would have liked to hear the stories in the grandmother's mouth!
As usual one day, Nasir was playing the flute to watch his pets eat grass. He knew how to play the flute beautifully. Suddenly his eyes fell on a strange light behind a wild flower bush. Curious as he went towards the bush, he saw a crystal ball with a beautiful sparkle. He has never seen such a beautiful ball! How the crystal ball was twinkling like a rainbow! Nasir was very surprised. He carefully picked up the ball and began to turn it. Suddenly Nasir heard someone talking in a very low voice from the crystal ball. The voice says, "You can tell me about your heart's desire, I will fulfill it."
Nasir could not believe that he actually heard someone's voice from inside the ball. But when he was sure that he really heard someone's voice, he became a little disoriented. He wanted so much, he couldn't decide which one to keep and which one to say. Then he said to himself, "If I wait until tomorrow, I will probably remember more things, and then I can decide which one is better." With this in mind, he packed the ball in his bag and happily returned home with his pets. On the way he made up his mind not to tell anyone about the ball.
Even the next day, Nasir could not decide what he could want, because he has everything. The day continued as before. But Nasir still could not reach a decision. Nasir was not at all worried about that. On the contrary, day by day he was becoming more and more foolish. The people of the village were very surprised at such a change in Nasir. This boy is so crazy! It did not enter anyone's head.
To see why Nasir is so happy, one day a mischievous boy of that village followed Nasir and his pets and hid behind a tree. Leaving the sheep and goats in the field, Nasir took out the ball and looked at it for a while, sitting in a corner. The boy watched everything silently from behind the tree. He kept waiting for Nasir to fall asleep from exhaustion. After a while Nasir really fell asleep. At that opportunity, the boy ran away with the crystal ball.
The boy reached the village with the crystal ball and called everyone in the village saying that he would show something wonderful. Everyone is surprised to see the beautiful colorful ball. They took the ball in hand and started looking back. Suddenly a soft voice was heard from the crystal ball. From that someone says, "I can fulfill your wishes." A villager took the ball in his hand and shouted, "I want a bag full of gold." Another took the ball and shouted, "I want my box full of jewels." Some wanted a new house with huge golden doors to replace their old house. Many people asked for the jewelry packed in a few bags.
All the wishes of the villagers were fulfilled. But still no one in the whole village was satisfied to think himself happy. Because they started to envy each other. He who has a house, starts to envy the one who has a bag full of gold. Again the one who has gold, starts to envy the one who has his own big house. And because of these reasons, the villagers stopped talking against each other. The open fields of the village, where children used to play sports, are no longer what they used to be. All over Jagaya are full of huge houses and gold bars. There was no space left for children's sports. The children of the village became very upset. Only Nasir and his family were spending their days with joy and contentment. As before, Nasir plays the flute happily in the morning and afternoon.
One day the village children went to Nasir with the crystal ball. They said to Nasir, "How happy and prosperous our little village used to be." "We are all very unhappy in every way. Magnificent houses or lots of gold have only brought us trouble," said the parents who came with the children.
When Nasir realized that the villagers were truly repentant, he said, "Though the crystal ball wanted to know what I wanted, it did not come true because I had nothing to ask for. Now if you are willing to go back to the way things were in exchange for everything, I am crystal clear." This is my wish to Ball."
The villagers happily agreed to Nasir's words. Nasir then took the crystal ball in his hand and turned it and said that this village should be returned exactly as it was before. In a moment, all the huge houses, gold and silver went away and green fields appeared in their place. The old-looking green village is back.
Once again the hearts of the people of the village were filled with happiness. The children enjoyed playing in the shade of the trees in the green field. Nasir continued to live his life happily playing the flute as before. At sunset, the sweet sound of his flute would spread throughout the village. The heart of the village was filled with that tune.
Just think, from the story of Nasir and his villagers we learned that we should be happy with what we have, it is not right to be greedy.
